What Completes the Maintenance of Family Ties

Machine translationRead the Arabic original
Fatwa No. ( 4917 )
Q: I had an uncle (maternal), and my uncle passed away about three years ago, leaving behind his wife and three daughters, two of whom are approximately twenty years old, and a son who is about sixteen years old. How can I be kind to these people and maintain my ties with them? Knowing that the daughters and their mother do not wear the Islamic dress, is it sufficient for maintaining ties with them that my mother and my sister visit them?
A : Maintaining family ties is done by being kind to relatives, being dutiful to them, extending a hand of help to them, and visiting them. As for you, it is not permissible for you to shake hands with your uncle’s wife or his daughters, nor to be in seclusion with any one of them. Rather, it is sufficient to greet them with words without shaking hands. You must advise them and clarify the truth to them regarding the obligation of hijab and wearing the Islamic dress. And success is from Allah, and may Allah send prayers and blessings upon our Prophet Muhammad, his family, and his Companions.
