The third question of Fatwa No. ( 6708 )
Q 3: What is the ruling in Islam regarding a man who severs his family ties because these relatives sever their ties with his mother , mock her, shower her with insults, and have been in conflict with her for more than two years, and this man fears for his mother’s feelings if he were to contact them? What is the satisfying answer?
A 3: He should advise them, guiding them to the virtue of maintaining family ties, warning them of the harms of severance, and reminding them of the verses and hadiths that have come regarding this, hoping that they will take heed and learn from it. If they persist in severing family ties and mistreating their relatives, he should repel their evil with what is best, and not repay evil with evil, in accordance with what is established from the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) that he said:Sunan al-Bayhaqi 10:623 And advise your mother to be patient
and to bear harm, and not to repay evil with evil, hoping for reward from Allah. And success is from Allah, and may Allah send prayers and blessings upon our Prophet Muhammad, his family, and his Companions.
