Encouraging the maintenance of family ties even if they are severed

Machine translationRead the Arabic original
Question:
A long question in which you say: My mother has an aunt who does not accept my mother's attempts to maintain ties with her. So how do you advise my mother—may Allah reward you with good—should she continue maintaining ties with her or sever them?

The Shaykh: Repeat.

The presenter: You say that your mother has an aunt who does not accept your mother's attempts to maintain ties with her. So how do you advise your mother? Should she maintain ties with her or sever them?

Answer:
We advise her to be patient and to maintain ties through kind words, good deeds, and financial support if that is feasible. She should not sever the ties. If she severs them, she should not be the one to do so, for she is her brother's daughter. She must strive to maintain ties with her, pray for her success and guidance, use kind words, and seek the help of any of her female relatives she wishes until her aunt is pleased with her. The Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) said in an authentic hadith:
Al-Wasil is not the one who recompenses the good done to him by his relatives, but Al-Wasil is the one who keeps good relations with those relatives who had severed the bond of kinship with him.ليس الواصل بالمكافي، ولكن الواصل الذي إذا قطعت رحمه؛ وصلها
Sahih al-Bukhari 5991
This is the one who maintains ties. And it is part of the belief of the people of the Sunnah and the community that one should maintain ties with the one who severs them. This is the Sunnah. If she severs ties and he severs ties, the severance continues. But if your brother, your uncle, your aunt, or any of your other relatives severs ties with you, you should not sever ties. Do good through kind words and good deeds according to your ability, and seek help from any of the righteous and good people you wish until the ties are restored and love returns. Yes.

The presenter: May Allah reward you with good, and may He do you good.
