Fatwa number ( 505 )
Q: He had a patient whose treatment was decided to be abroad, and he was given 9,000 riyals for that purpose, covering transportation costs and treatment expenses and attendant expenses, but the patient died before the trip. He asks: What should he do with that sum?
A: If the matter is as the questioner stated in his question, namely that the aforementioned sum was given to him to treat his patient abroad, and that the patient died before the trip, then he should return the aforementioned sum to the entity that gave it to him; because it has become impossible to spend it on what it was designated for. It is not permissible for him to take anything from it; because his right to any part of it has ceased. And success is from Allah, and may Allah send prayers and blessings upon our Prophet Muhammad, his family, and his Companions.
