Fatwa number ( 18602 )
Q: A man claims that he treats his patients merely by looking at the patient
without giving him any of the medicines, but rather he points to him toward the right, which is an expression of that patient’s health, and if he points to him toward the left, it is an expression of that patient’s lack of health. Is it permissible to seek treatment in this state, and is it permissible to go to him for treatment?
A : It is not permissible to go to this person who treats by pointing; because he is a liar and a sorcerer, and he may be among those who seek the aid of the jinn, in which case he would be among the fortune-tellers. And the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) said:Sunan al-Bayhaqi 15:740 (peace and blessings be upon him), and treatment is only permissible with those who treat with the lawful ruqyah (healing by Qur'anic recitation) or with the known, permissible, and proven medicine. And success is from Allah, and may Allah send prayers and blessings upon our Prophet Muhammad, his family, and his Companions.
