Q: We inform your Eminence that there is a person in Indonesia who treats the sick. A trustworthy person, if Allah wills, went to him and told me what he saw with his own eyes: that he places the patient on the bed, puts his hand on the area of pain and holds it while reciting, then places an adhesive bandage on it and asks the patient to return to him after two or three days. Then, on the second visit, he holds the place of pain with his hand and recites in Arabic: "Bismillah al-Rahman al-Rahim, I seek refuge in Allah from the heat of the Fire and the evil of every stinging creature, O Most Gentle, be gentle with us, O Your hidden gentleness." He repeats this many times, then recites in a language I do not know, then presses and the pain comes out if it is before a surgical operation. But in a time of ten minutes, a fatty gland or a pimple, the patient feels pain afterwards, and it becomes like a wound from a sharp tool. Then he places the adhesive bandage and asks him to remove it after three or four days. He forbids the patient from eating meat and fatty foods during this period. The result, with the permission of Allah, is a good and beneficial
result that is clear to the eye. He does not require a specific amount of money. He says about himself that he treats with the Qur'an. He is a sergeant in the army, he oversees an orphanage and spends on it, and he is a preacher at the mosque. The man who went to him for treatment told me that he noticed he smokes cigarettes and shakes hands with non-mahram women. A child came to him while I was present, and he had an extra piece of flesh on his upper lip, about 3 cm, black. He said to me: "Look, in the name of Allah," then he pulled it out with his hand in a second, then the blood came out and he placed the adhesive bandage on it. It is said about him, from the large numbers that come to him, that he treats rare cases, such as epilepsy, cancer, and vision problems. And since one of my relatives and some of the villagers want to travel to this man for treatment, and they are confused about their matter. Please inform us, may Allah reward you with good, about the ruling on treatment with this man, and let it be urgent, and may Allah reward you with good.
A : It is not permissible to go to the person mentioned; because the person's creed is not known, and because he treats the sick with unknown words, and because of what was mentioned regarding his laxity in his religion by smoking cigarettes and shaking hands with non-mahram women. And success is from Allah, and may Allah send prayers and blessings upon our Prophet Muhammad, his family, and his Companions.
