All praise is due to Allah alone, and peace and blessings be upon His Messenger and his Companions. After that: The Permanent Committee for Scholarly Research and Ifta has reviewed what was sent to His Eminence the Grand Mufti from His Excellency the Director of the Executive Office of the Supreme Authority for Collecting Donations for the Muslims of Bosnia and Herzegovina and Somalia , in his letter No. (7) dated 18/1/1417 AH, which was forwarded to the Committee by the General Secretariat of the Council of Senior Scholars, No. (582) dated 25/1/1417 AH. His Excellency asked a question, the text of which is as follows: In light of the fact that the Supreme Authority for Collecting Donations for the Muslims of Bosnia and Herzegovina is undertaking many vital and important projects on the land of Bosnia , which include distributing iftar meals to Muslims, in addition to some food rations, we need some meat. Therefore, we ask Your Eminence to issue a ruling, may Allah reward you, on the following: Q1: Do the Christians recite a dhikr (remembrance) when slaughtering, and if they do, what is the formula? Q2: What is the evidence for the permissibility of eating the slaughter of the Christians , knowing that we know they did not invoke the Name of Allah upon it , based on the hadith of Aisha (may Allah be pleased with her) that she asked the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) about people who send us meat and are recent converts to Islam, and we do not know whether they mentioned the Name of Allah upon it or not, and the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) instructed her to invoke the Name of Allah and eat it.
They pledged to Islam, and we do not know whether they invoked the name of Allah upon it or not, and the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) instructed her to invoke the name and eat. Q 3: If they make the invocation a condition in the slaughter of the Christians, do they make the other conditions a condition, such as the slaughterer being sane and discerning? Q 4: The Christians perform the slaughter using a machine, such as a hot disc or an automatic knife, and no one holds it; rather, it slaughters by itself. What is the ruling on the slaughtered animal from that? Q 5: There are restaurants for Christians that serve beef and pork, and they serve each meat separately, but the tools used are all shared, for example, the grinding machine, the frying oil, the cutting knife, and the table on which it is cut. What is the ruling on eating in these restaurants? Q 6: There are additives added to some types of meat, cheese, sweets, and soap that are derived from animals, and they have a chemical symbol written on these products. So, if they are derived from animals whose eating is permissible, but the one who slaughtered them was a Christian who did not invoke the name of Allah upon it, is it permissible to eat these types? And if the soap is derived from animals whose eating is not permissible, such as the pig, is it permissible to use it? And is it necessary to verify the absence of these additives from these products, if verification is necessary or not permissible
Eating from their slaughtered animals without asking? Q 7: There are countries, like Bosnia for example, where the complete abandonment of prayer is widespread, and their proportion among the peoples is large. We have learned from your permissibility that the slaughter of one who abandons prayer is not permissible, so is it obligatory to verify the slaughterer, or is it permissible to eat from their slaughtered animals without asking? Q 8: The one who slaughters cattle strikes it with a tool on its head until it becomes dizzy for a period so that he can slaughter it. Is this action permissible?

And after the committee's study of the inquiry, it answered with the following: First: It is obligatory to invoke the name at the time of slaughter by saying: (In the name of Allah) when moving the slaughter machine, whether the slaughterer is a Muslim or a People of the Book. If the name of other than Allah is mentioned at the time of slaughter, the slaughtered animal is forbidden absolutely. Allah the Exalted said:
Prohibited to you are dead animals, blood, the flesh of swine, and that which has been dedicated to other than Allahحُرِّمَتْ عَلَيْكُمُ الْمَيْتَةُ وَالدَّمُ وَلَحْمُ الْخِنْـزِيرِ وَمَا أُهِلَّ لِغَيْرِ اللَّهِ بِهِ
[Al-Ma'idah 5:3]
And as for the hadith of A'ishah (may Allah be pleased with her)
She asked the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him): "People send us meat, and they are recent converts to Islam, and we do not know whether they mentioned the Name of Allah upon it or not?" The Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) said: "Invoke the Name of Allah and eat it."
, the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) explained the prescribed thing for them when in doubt about the slaughter, that they should do what is upon them of
the invocation at the time of eating, and that they should attribute the matter of these slaughterers to what is known from the Muslims of invoking the name at the time of slaughter. Second: The conditions for the slaughter of the Christians are the same as the conditions for the slaughter of Muslims, namely that the slaughterer is sane and discerning, that the slaughter tool is sharp, and that it cuts the windpipe and the esophagus with the mention of the invocation at the time of slaughter. If the beast dies from the hot disc or the beating before the lawful slaughter, it is forbidden. And if it does not die from the disc or the beating and it is slaughtered with the lawful slaughter, the slaughtered animal is permissible. But it is not permissible to strike the animal and cause it harm. Third: It is not permissible to use the tools and utensils used in impure slaughtered animals, such as carrion or the pig and the like, and they must be purified before use. And it is not permissible to consume foods in which the aforementioned tools were used before purification, due to the hadith of Tha'labah that he asked the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) and said:
We are in the land of a people of the Book. Shall we eat from their utensils? He said: No, unless you do not find others, then wash them and eat from them.إنا بأرض قوم أهل كتاب، أفنأكل بآنيتهم؟ قال: لا، إلا ألا تجدوا غيرها فاغسلوها وكلوا فيها
. Fourth: The original ruling is the permissibility of the Muslim's slaughtered animal, and its apparent meaning is attributed to uprightness, and it is not necessary to ask about the slaughtered animal and the state of the slaughterer as long as he is a Muslim.
And success is from Allah, and may Allah send prayers and blessings upon our Prophet Muhammad and his family and his Companions.
