Treatment of Incontinence

Machine translationRead the Arabic original
The third question of Fatwa No. ( 18584 )
Q3: A university student finds wudu' very difficult, for whenever he enters the bathroom, he stays for more than half an hour, and whenever he leaves, he feels
that drops of urine are coming out of him. Is he among those who suffer from incontinence, and is it obligatory for him to seek treatment or not?

A3: If urine actually comes out after his wudu' continuously, then it is urinary incontinence. Incontinence is not hidden. If it is merely a suspicion with no reality, then it is waswas (whispers), and the obligatory thing in that case is to not pay attention to it and to seek refuge in Allah from the accursed Shaytan, for it is from Shaytan. As for the treatment of one who has incontinence, it is prescribed (mashru') for the patient to seek permissible medicine. It was part of the guidance of the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) to practice treatment for himself and to command it for those who were afflicted with illness among his family and companions. In (al-Musnad) and (Sunan Abu Dawud and Sunan al-Tirmidhi and Sunan Ibn Majah ), with a sound chain, from Usamah ibn Sharik who said:
Usama ibn Sharik said, "I was with the Prophet, may Allah bless him and grant him peace, when some bedouins came. There were many people on all sides. The people were silent and no one spoke except them. They said, 'Messenger of Allah! We experience difficulty in such-and-such and such-and-such' and it was in things which are not harmful to people. He said, 'Servants of Allah! Allah has removed difficulty except in a case where a man slanders someone unjustly - that is the one who is in difficulty and destroyed.' They said, 'Messenger of Allah, can we make use of medical treatment?' 'Yes, servants of Allah,' he replied, 'you can make use of medical treatment. Allah Almighty did not create an illness but that He made a cure for it - except for one disease.' They asked, 'And what is that, Messenger of Allah?' 'Old age,' he replied. They said, 'Messenger of Allah, what is the best thing that a man can be given?' He replied, 'Good character'."
