A doctor’s prescription for a treatment containing alcohol
Machine translationRead the Arabic original
Fatwa number ( 4404 )
Q: I ask you to issue a ruling on the prohibition of some treatments containing alcohol, as this matter causes me great distress and doubt, and I fear that I may commit a sin by prescribing these treatments to patients. May Allah reward you.
A: It is not permissible to mix medicines with intoxicating alcohol. However, if they are mixed with alcohol, it is permissible to use them if the proportion of alcohol is small and its effect does not appear in the color, taste, or smell of the medicine; otherwise, it is forbidden to use what has been mixed with it. And success is from Allah, and may Allah send prayers and blessings upon our Prophet Muhammad, his family, and his Companions.
