Fatwa number ( 18981 )
Q: A person is afflicted in his religion and his worldly life with a severe affliction, and he fears fitnah (trial, discord or temptation),
and he has been intensely wishing for death for a long time, just as one wishes for water in a desert. He is taking various types of medications; if he were to leave some of them for a few days, it would lead to his death, and if he were to leave some others for a few months, it would lead to his death. He is able to kill himself in several ways, but he fears the punishment of Hellfire. Is it permissible for him to stop seeking treatment and do nothing except to leave it?
A: We advise you to be patient with this affliction and to seek reward for it from Allah the Exalted. Many hadiths have come from the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) containing glad tidings for the afflicted believer if he is patient and seeks reward. It is established from the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) that he said:Sahih al-Bukhari 1469 Narrated by al-Bukhari and Muslim . He also said (peace and blessings be upon him): Sahih Muslim 2999 Narrated by Muslim .
He also said (peace and blessings be upon him):Sahih al-Bukhari 5641, 5642 Narrated by al-Bukhari and Muslim . He also said (peace and blessings be upon him): Jami` at-Tirmidhi 2399Hasan (Darussalam) Narrated by al-Tirmidhi who said: It is a good, authentic hadith. We also advise you to make much du'a' (supplication) and to persist in asking Allah the Exalted for relief, while taking the means of healing, such as medications and others. We ask Allah to make the outcome of this affliction good for you, and to grant you health and well-being, for He is near and responsive. And success is from Allah, and may Allah send prayers and blessings upon our Prophet Muhammad, his family, and his Companions.

And whoever remains patient, Allah will make him patient. Nobody can be given a blessing better and greater than patience.
ومن يتصبر يصبره الله، وما أعطي أحد عطاء خيرًا وأوسع من الصبرStrange are the ways of a believer for there is good in every affair of his and this is not the case with anyone else except in the case of a believer for if he has an occasion to feel delight, he thanks (God), thus there is a good for him in it, and if he gets into trouble and shows resignation (and endures it patiently), there is a good for him in it.
عجبًا لأمر المؤمن، إن أمره كله له خير، وليس ذلك لأحد إلا للمؤمن، إن أصابته سراء شكر فكان خيرًا له، وإن أصابته ضراء صبر فكان خيرًا لهHe also said (peace and blessings be upon him):
No fatigue, nor disease, nor sorrow, nor sadness, nor hurt, nor distress befalls a Muslim, even if it were the prick he receives from a thorn, but that Allah expiates some of his sins for that.
ما يصيب المؤمن من نصب ولا وصب ولا هم ولا حزن ولا أذى ولا غم حتى الشوكة يشاكها إلا كفر الله بها من خطاياهTrials will not cease afflicting the believing man and the believing woman in their self, children, and wealth, until they meet Allah without having any sin.
ما يزال البلاء بالمؤمن والمؤمنة في نفسه وولده وماله حتى يلقى الله تعالى وما عليه خطيئة
