Are there conditions for repentance regarding the abandonment of unlawful wealth?
Machine translationRead the Arabic original
The third question of Fatwa No. ( 7631 )
Q 3: A person lived earning a living from haram (forbidden) sources as a music teacher and a musician in nightclubs and dance halls. Then Allah turned him to repentance, and he abandoned that haram and turned to Allah. Is it a condition for the acceptance of his repentance that he abandons the wealth he accumulated through this path? He also asks: How should he dispose of that wealth, given his readiness to abandon it entirely? And does the matter differ if he is ready or not ready to relinquish this wealth, and whether he is content with other means of support or not?
A 3: If he was a disbeliever at the time he earned the aforementioned haram, and then he repented with sincere repentance from his disbelief and this haram earning, Allah will accept his repentance, and it is not obligatory for him to dispose of the haram earnings from before his Islam. Allah the Exalted said:[Al-Anfal 8:38] the verse. And if he was not a disbeliever at the time he earned this haram wealth, but he was an open sinner due to this haram earning, and then he repented, then a condition for the acceptance of
his repentance is to dispose of this haram wealth by spending it in the causes of righteousness; because that is evidence of his sincerity in his repentance and his purity of intention therein. And success is from Allah, and may Allah send prayers and blessings upon our Prophet Muhammad, his family, and his Companions.

Say to those who have disbelieved [that] if they cease, what has previously occurred will be forgiven for them
