Saying “I repent to Allah and the Messenger” and “I entrust you to Allah and His Messenger”

Machine translationRead the Arabic original
The first question of fatwa number ( 11056 )
Q 1: Is it permissible to say: “I repent to Allah and the Messenger,” and “I entrust you to Allah and His Messenger” in farewell, and “Allah and the Prophet are sufficient for us” in dhikr ? Some people believe these are correct and argue with us about them. May Allah reward you with good.
A 1: Repentance and turning back are acts of nearness that Allah commanded in His saying, Exalted is He:
And turn to Allah in repentance, all of you, O believers, that you might succeed.
[An-Nur 24:31]
And His saying:
And return [in repentance] to your Lord and submit to Him before the punishment comes upon you; then you will not be helped.
[Az-Zumar 39:54]
So that does not belong to any of His creation, neither a near angel nor a sent prophet. Likewise, sufficiency and reliance are from Allah the Exalted alone. Therefore, Allah praised the people of tawhid (the oneness of Allah) when they singled Him out for sufficiency, saying, Exalted is He:
Those to whom hypocrites said, "Indeed, the people have gathered against you, so fear them." But it [merely] increased them in faith, and they said, "Sufficient for us is Allah, and [He is] the best Disposer of affairs."
[Ali 'Imran 3:173]

And they did not say: "Sufficient for us is Allah and His Messenger." Ibn al-Qayyim (may Allah have mercy on him) said in his interpretation of the statement of the Exalted:
O Prophet, sufficient for you is Allah and for whoever follows you of the believers.
[Al-Anfal 8:64]
meaning: Allah is sufficient for you and sufficient for your followers, so you do not need anyone else with Him. He mentioned that this is the choice of the Shaykh al-Islam Ibn Taymiyyah , and he refuted the one who said: the meaning is "Sufficient for you is Allah and sufficient for you are the believers," explaining that sufficiency and reliance are for Allah alone, like reliance (tawakkul), piety, and worship. Allah the Exalted said:
But if they intend to deceive you - then sufficient for you is Allah. It is He who supported you with His help and with the believersوَإِنْ يُرِيدُوا أَنْ يَخْدَعُوكَ فَإِنَّ حَسْبَكَ اللَّهُ هُوَ الَّذِي أَيَّدَكَ بِنَصْرِهِ وَبِالْمُؤْمِنِينَ
[Al-Anfal 8:62]
So he distinguished between sufficiency and support, making sufficiency for Allah alone, and making support for Him through His victory and through His servants. He praised the people of tawhid (the oneness of Allah) among His servants for singling Him out with sufficiency, so the Exalted said:
Those to whom hypocrites said, "Indeed, the people have gathered against you, so fear them." But it [merely] increased them in faith, and they said, "Sufficient for us is Allah, and [He is] the best Disposer of affairs."
[Ali 'Imran 3:173]
And they did not say: "Sufficient for us is Allah and His Messenger." Similar to this is the statement of the Exalted:
and said, "Sufficient for us is Allah; Allah will give us of His bounty, and [so will] His Messenger; indeed, we are desirous toward Allah,"وَقَالُوا حَسْبُنَا اللَّهُ سَيُؤْتِينَا اللَّهُ مِنْ فَضْلِهِ وَرَسُولُهُ إِنَّا إِلَى اللَّهِ رَاغِبُونَ
[At-Tawbah 9:59]
So reflect on how He made the giving to Allah and the Messenger, and made the sufficiency for Him alone, so He did not say: “And they said: Allah and His Messenger are sufficient for us,” but rather He made it His pure right, as He said:
indeed, we are desirous toward Allahإِنَّا إِلَى اللَّهِ رَاغِبُونَ
[At-Tawbah 9:59]
So He made the desire for Him alone, as He said:
And to your Lord, then aspire.
So desire, reliance, turning back, and sufficiency are for Allah alone, just as worship, mindfulness, prostration, vows, and oaths are for Him alone, Blessed and Exalted is He. End of quote. And by this it is known that what some people say upon repentance: “I repent to Allah and the Messenger” is not permissible. Likewise, their saying: “Allah and the Prophet are sufficient for us” is not permissible; rather, that is shirk (associating partners with Allah). Likewise, the saying of some in farewell to the traveler: “I entrust you to Allah and His Messenger”; for what was narrated by Abu Dawud and al-Tirmidhi
'Abdullah bin 'Umar (May Allah be pleased with them) would say to him: "Draw near so that I may bid farewell to you as Messenger of Allah (ﷺ) used to bid farewell to us. (The Messenger of Allah (ﷺ) used to say: "'Astaudi'ullaha dinaka, wa amanataka, wa khawatima 'amalika' (I entrust Allah with your Deen, your trust and your last deeds)."عن ابـن عمر رضي الله عنهما، أنه كان يقول للرجل إذا أراد سفرًا: ادن مني أودعك كمـا كان رسول الله صلى الله عليه وسلم يودعنا، فيقول: أستودع الله دينك وأمانتك وخواتيم أعمالك

And success is from Allah, and may Allah send prayers and blessings upon our Prophet Muhammad, his family, and his Companions.
