Feeding in the case of accidental killing
Machine translationRead the Arabic original
Fatwa number ( 3982 )
Q: What is the ruling on a man who parked his truck and began unloading some of the cargo from it? During this time, his assistant went under the truck without his knowledge. When the man finished his work, he got into his truck, which had been running since he parked it. As soon as he moved the truck, he heard someone calling out to him from behind. He found his assistant lying on the ground. He immediately had him taken for medical attention and reported the accident to the relevant authorities. Afterwards, the deceased's family waived their right to claim compensation. The man was told that he must spend an amount equivalent to freeing a slave, that is, thirty thousand riyals, and that fasting would be dropped from him. He actually spent the mentioned amount. Later, he was told that fasting was not dropped from him. What is your opinion on this?
A: If the matter is as described, it is obligatory for you to free a slave
who is a believer. If you cannot find one, then you must fast for two consecutive months. This is what the evidence from the Book and the Sunnah indicates. As for feeding, it is not sufficient, because there is no text in the Shari'ah indicating it. And your Lord is not forgetful. And success is from Allah, and may Allah send prayers and blessings upon our Prophet Muhammad, his family, and his Companions.
