Bringing cigarettes to the father

Machine translationRead the Arabic original
Fatwa number ( 1914 )
Q: My father has no one but me, and he asks me to bring him cigarettes. If I do not obey him, he becomes angry and his heart narrows toward me. I dislike bringing him cigarettes because I know they are forbidden. Please give us a ruling, and may Allah reward you.
A: Cigarettes are among the impure things, and they are forbidden, so they are haram, and smoking them is a sin against Allah. Bringing them to someone who smokes is a means to their consumption, and means have the ruling of their ends. If the end is forbidden, then the means leading to it is likewise forbidden. Obedience to parents is prescribed in what is obedience to Allah and in what is permissible, but obedience to them in disobedience to Allah is not permissible. This is based on his saying (peace and blessings be upon him):
There is no obedience in matters involving disobedience to Allaah. Obedience is in matters which are good and universally recognized.لا طاعة لأحد في معصية الله، إنما الطاعة في المعروف
Sunan Abi Dawud 2625Sahih (Al-Albani)
narrated by al-Nasa'i and Ibn Majah from 'Ali (may Allah be pleased with him). And his saying (peace and blessings be upon him):
A creature is not to be obeyed when it involves disobedience to the "Creator.”لا طاعة لمخلوق في معصية الخالق
Mishkat al-Masabih 3696
narrated by Imam Ahmad in (al-Musnad) and al-Hakim in (al-Mustadrak) from 'Imran, and from al-Hakam ibn 'Amr al-Ghifari . We also attach for you a copy of the fatwa of His Eminence Shaykh Muhammad ibn Ibrahim (may Allah have mercy on him) explaining the ruling on smoking cigarettes.
