Fermentation of Intoxicants

Machine translationRead the Arabic original
The sixth question of Fatwa No. ( 7322 )
Q6: If sugars are fermented with bacteria and the resulting alcohol is then broken down by bacteria to become vinegar, is there any objection to using such vinegar?
A6: If the matter is as described, it is not permissible to use it; for Anas (may Allah be pleased with him) narrated that
the Prophet was asked about wine which was turned into vinegar* and forbade itأن النبي - صلى الله عليه وسلم - سئل عن الخمر يتخذ خلاًّ، فقال: لا
Mishkat al-Masabih 3641
, narrated by Ahmad, Muslim, Abu Dawud, and al-Tirmidhi, and al-Tirmidhi graded it authentic. And from Anas that Abu Talhah asked the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) about orphans who had inherited intoxicants, and he said:
Pour it out. They said: Should we not make it into vinegar? He said: Noأهرقها، قال: أفلا نجعلها خلاًّ؟ قال: لا
. Narrated by Ahmad and Abu Dawud. So his prohibition (peace and blessings be upon him) of fermenting intoxicants indicates that fermentation is not permissible, and that intoxicants are not purified or made lawful by fermentation. And success is from Allah, and may Allah send prayers and blessings upon our Prophet Muhammad, his family, and his Companions.
