Q: A woman asks and says: She is a virgin, and she married, and after the first months of marriage passed, she carried a gas cylinder, so blood came from her and a fetus fell from her womb, and she did not know that she was pregnant. Is anything obligatory upon her on the side of her causing the fetus to fall?
A: If the pregnancy that was lost had reached four months or more, then the pregnant woman owes an expiation, which is freeing a believing slave; if she does not find one, then she fasts two consecutive months; because she caused his killing by carrying the heavy load. And if the pregnancy was less than four months, then she owes nothing; because the soul was not breathed into it. And success is from Allah, and may Allah send prayers and blessings upon our Prophet Muhammad, his family, and his Companions.
