Q: We inform you that my wife, whose name is (M. A. M.), is 31 years old and is currently hospitalized suffering from a miscarriage. She is in her sixth month of pregnancy, and the fetus is deformed. The ultrasound confirmed that the head and brain have not formed. Today, we seek your ruling on whether the fetus must be removed or not. We request your guidance on this matter, as the hospital has requested it. We thank you greatly, and may peace be upon you.
A: It is not permissible to abort a woman’s pregnancy because of the child’s deformity. There is still time remaining in the period during which it is hoped that Allah (Glorified and Exalted is He) will remove the deformity from the child and bring it forth as a sound human being. May Allah heal her and make matters easy for you both. And success is from Allah, and may Allah send prayers and blessings upon our Prophet Muhammad, his family, and his Companions.
