Fatwa number ( 10121 )
Q: My mother is between 80 and 85 years old. My father passed away, leaving behind five children, both male and female, who were poor. My mother worked hard for them, striving to provide them with food and clothing. They were nomads, so she worked in spinning, weaving, and grinding grains, taking a wage for this work for her children. She did not observe ihdad for her deceased husband for the reasons mentioned. Moreover, she was even in need of the clothes required for ihdad. What is the solution now, and what is the expiation? May Allah reward you with the best reward. Note: My father passed away forty years ago.
A: If the matter is as described, then your mother owes nothing for not observing ihdad for her husband forty years ago, as the time for it has passed. And success is from Allah, and may Allah send prayers and blessings upon our Prophet Muhammad, his family, and his Companions.
