A woman taking her husband's name

Machine translationRead the Arabic original
The third question of Fatwa No. ( 18147 )
Q3: Perhapsit has become common in some countries for a Muslim woman, after marriage, to be identified by her husband's name or title. For example, if Zaynab marries Zayd, is it permissible for her to write: (Zaynab Zayd), or is this part of Western civilization that must be avoided and guarded against?
A3: It is not permissible for a person to be identified by anyone other than his father. Allah the Exalted said:
Call them by [the names of] their fathers; it is more just in the sight of Allahادْعُوهُمْ لآبَائِهِمْ هُوَ أَقْسَطُ عِنْدَ اللَّهِ
[Al-Ahzab 33:5]
And a severe warning has come regarding one who claims descent from other than his father. Accordingly, it is not permissible for a woman to be identified by her husband, as is the custom among the disbelievers and among the Muslims who imitate them.
And success is from Allah, and may Allah send prayers and blessings upon our Prophet Muhammad, his family, and his Companions.
