What is the limit for catching the bowing? Is it the imam’s rising or his saying, “Hear from Allah for those who praise Him”?

Machine translationRead the Arabic original
The questioner : The maximum limit here for catching the bowing is the imam’s rising or his saying: “Hear from Allah for those who praise Him”?

The Shaykh : The criterion is the imam’s rising, meaning the action rather than the words. However, if one does not see the imam, some imams may not combine their saying:
Allah hears whoever praises him سمع الله لمن حمده
Muwatta Malik 3:17
with their rising. They may say it before beginning to rise, or they may say it after standing up. In this case, if one does not see the imam, he bases his action on the words, unless he knows from his imam that he does not say “Hear from Allah for those who praise Him” until he has finished rising, or that he says it before moving to rise from the bowing. In that case, he bases his action on what is most likely in his opinion.

The questioner : Is the criterion the action, not the words?

The Shaykh : Yes, the criterion is the action.

The questioner : Yes, may Allah bless you.
