Fatwa number ( 12539 )
Q: A dispute occurred between me and my wife in the month of Ramadan in the year 1409 AH. In the middle of the blessed month, I had prayed with the Muslims in the mosque and returned home, and I took my bed and slept,
and my wife said to me: "How can you sleep while I have not slept?" She got up and pulled the blanket off me. I said to her: "Please, do not pull the blanket off me." She repeated it, so I got up and held her hand. I was angry and went to sleep in the room of my cousin's son. He said to me: "How can you do that? Put your anger aside and fix things between us." Regarding all of this, I seek your guidance, may Allah reward you with good: Is there anything required of me or of her in this matter? Know, O honorable scholar, that when she informed her family about the matter, they kept her with them and said: "You must ask about this matter." I ask for your guidance on this urgently. May Allah preserve you, and may you be well every year.
A: If the matter is as described, then holding her hand is not considered a divorce. It is obligatory for you and your wife to fear Allah, to treat each other with kindness, and to fulfill the rights owed to one's spouse. And success is from Allah, and may Allah send prayers and blessings upon our Prophet Muhammad, his family, and his Companions.
