Fatwa number ( 15737 )
Q: I have forbidden my head of household from going with me to my workplace in al-Sulayl, and now I regret it. What should I do? May Allah guide you.
A: If your intention in forbidding your head of household was that a divorce would occur if you broke your oath—meaning one divorce would occur if you broke the oath—then you may take her back as long as she is in the waiting period, provided this is not the third divorce. If your intention in the prohibition was to prevent yourself from taking your wife to al-Sulayl, and you did not intend for a divorce to occur, then you must pay the expiation for an oath if you go with her, and no divorce occurs. The expiation is: feeding ten poor people
or clothing them, or freeing a believing slave. If you cannot find the means to do so, then fast for three days. And success is from Allah, and may Allah send prayers and blessings upon our Prophet Muhammad, his family, and his Companions.
