Q1: A pregnant woman intentionally aborted the fetus What should she do, and does she owe an expiation?
A1: If the fetus she aborted had reached four months, then she has committed a great sin, and she must repent to Allah (Glorified and Exalted is He) for it, and not return to such an act. She must pay the blood money to the heirs if they demand it; it is a slave or a slave woman, valued at one-tenth of the blood money for a woman. She does not owe an expiation because she intentionally killed the fetus. However, if the fetus had not reached four months, she has done something forbidden, and she must repent from it and not return to such an act, and she does not owe blood money. And success is from Allah, and may Allah send prayers and blessings upon our Prophet Muhammad, his family, and his Companions.
