Marriage to the daughter of one’s paternal uncle from his wife who had previously been one’s grandfather’s wife

Fatwa number ( 15950 )
Q: My grandfather had two wives, and this was in 1946 CE. The first was my paternal grandmother, and the second was her co-wife. They lived together with their children. My grandmother had three sons and two daughters, and the second wife also had three daughters. In 1954 CE, before November 1st, my grandmother was martyred, and the family remained as it was, living in one house, all the children and the second wife, until 1957 CE, when the French authorities arrested my grandfather
and he was martyred in that same year, i.e., 1957 CE. From that time, the family remained together under the care of the second wife until 1963 CE, when a man proposed to marry my grandfather’s second wife. This man was my grandfather’s brother (i.e., my paternal uncle), and he actually married her in that same year. She has been living with him to this day. She bore four daughters and one son with her second husband, i.e., my paternal uncle. They are still living together as of the writing of these words. My question, sir, is this: What is the Islamic and legal ruling on my marrying one of the daughters she bore from her second husband, who is my paternal uncle? And what is your interpretation of this? I ask for a quick response, for I am in a state of confusion and am very urgent, and success is from Allah.

A: There is no impediment to your marriage to the daughters of your paternal uncle from the aforementioned wife who had previously been your grandfather’s wife, provided that you were not breastfed by her in your childhood with the breastfeeding that prohibits marriage; because she is a stranger to you, and there is no mahram relationship between you. Therefore, it is permissible for you to marry one of her daughters from other than your grandfather. And success is from Allah, and may Allah send prayers and blessings upon our Prophet Muhammad, his family, and his Companions.
