A man’s marriage to the daughter of a woman who was his father’s wife

Machine translationRead the Arabic original
Fatwa number ( 14884 )
Q: After my father died, his wife—meaning my father’s wife—married my uncle and bore a daughter from him. Is it permissible for this daughter—my uncle’s daughter—to marry my son? Knowing that my father’s wife is considered my son’s paternal grandmother. .
A: If your father’s wife, whom your uncle married, is not your mother, then it is permissible for your son to marry her daughter from your uncle. This is because the prohibition is for a Muslim to marry his father’s or grandfather’s wife. As Allah the Exalted said:
And do not marry those [women] whom your fathers married, except what has already occurredوَلاَ تَنْكِحُوا مَا نَكَحَ آبَاؤُكُمْ مِنَ النِّسَاءِ إِلا مَا قَدْ سَلَفَ
[An-Nisa 4:22]
The prohibition is only regarding the father’s wife and does not include their daughters from other than your father, nor their sisters. And success is from Allah, and may Allah send prayers and blessings upon our Prophet Muhammad, his family, and his Companions.
