The Marriage of a Modest Working Woman

Machine translationRead the Arabic original
Fatwa No. ( 6373 )
Q: We are young men whom Allah has blessed with the blessing of faith. Our ages range between twenty-five and twenty-six. We wish to get married, if Allah wills. As you know, Your Eminence, the Muslim youth of this era need much preaching and guidance so that their hearts become tranquil, remembering Allah the Exalted, and they proceed upon His straight path. So we ask Allah the Exalted to guide us to this matter, which is marriage. We also inform you, O Shaykh, that we are about to be employed for a moderate wage, and we want a believing woman who will help us with our religious affairs. However, we find believing women who wear the hijab working in jobs. Does the pure Shari'ah allow a believer to marry these believing women, or should he demand that they give up their work and be content with the home and raising children? Who is better from the Shari'ah perspective? Are beauty and age two factors that must be considered when choosing a righteous wife? And how is the process of selection carried out?
A: It is permissible to marry a woman who works, provided she is modestly dressed, and her work does not lead to anything forbidden, and it is in a female environment, with no free mixing with unrelated men or seclusion, and it is done with her husband's permission.
As for the best of women from a legal standpoint, it is the one who has faith; for it is established from the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) that he said:
A woman is married for four qualities, for her wealth, her family status, her beauty and her religion: so get the religious one and prosper.تنكح المرأة لأربع: لمالها ولجمالها ولحسبها ولدينها، فاظفر بذات الدين تربت يداك
Bulugh al-Maram 8:5
It is agreed upon by al-Bukhari and Muslim. And success is from Allah, and may Allah send prayers and blessings upon our Prophet Muhammad, his family, and his Companions.
