Combining Two Sisters in Marriage
Machine translationRead the Arabic original
Fatwa No. ( 1054 )
Q: A man married two sisters who share the same mother. Is that permissible, or is it considered forbidden, falling under the general prohibition against marrying two sisters?
A: There is no doubt that siblinghood through the mother is established, and the prohibition of marrying two sisters at the same time is absolute, whether they are related by blood or by breastfeeding, whether they are both free or both slave, or one free and one slave, whether they share both parents or only a father or only a mother, whether before or after consummation. This is due to the generality of the statement of Allah the Exalted:[An-Nisa 4:23] Ibn al-Mundhir said: The scholars are in agreement on this ruling.
And success is from Allah, and may Allah send prayers and blessings upon our Prophet Muhammad and his family and his Companions.
