The marriage of a Muslim to a woman of the Book and to a disbeliever
Machine translationRead the Arabic original
The third question of Fatwa No. ( 2192 )
Q3: A Muslim married a woman of the Book, and then she embraced Islam. Then she found the worship and obligations of Islam burdensome, so she decided to return to her original religion. Is it permissible for the Muslim to keep her as his wife, or not?
A3: It is not permissible for a Muslim to keep his Muslim wife who has left the religion of Islam, whether she turns to a religion other than Islam or to one of the other religions she used to practice; because by leaving Islam, even if she embraces Judaism or Christianity, she no longer has the ruling of a woman of the Book, and she is considered an apostate to whom the rulings of apostates apply. And success is from Allah, and may Allah send prayers and blessings upon our Prophet Muhammad, his family, and his Companions.
