The first question of Fatwa No. ( 16471 )
Q1: I inform your Eminence that my father passed away when I was one year old, and my mother married my father’s paternal uncle, and it was his desire to raise me and my older sisters, and he raised us with the best upbringing, may Allah reward us for him with all good. Then he was blessed with five sons and two daughters from my mother. In the year 1406 AH, he married a second woman and was blessed with two sons and a daughter from her. I used to live with him in the house because I considered him my father. After I got married, I separated and lived in an independent house. I praise Allah that I treated him kindly, and the credit goes to him, after Allah, for my education until I reached my current position and knowledge. On 24/12/1412 AH, he departed to the mercy of Allah following a traffic accident. My brothers and I were working in the city of Tabuk because he was working as a military officer in Tabuk . When he retired, he returned to the city of Ta’if , and we were unable to return with him to Ta’if due to the difficulty of transportation from Tabuk to Ta’if . After his death, I submitted a request
for transfer to the city of Ta’if to supervise my mother and younger sisters and to repay the kindness, especially to his young children. Then my transfer was realized, and I praise Allah for that. My question: Is it permissible for me to meet his wife during the mourning period? Knowing that I used to meet her with my mother and we would sit together, because I consider her like my mother due to his raising me. Is it permissible for me to marry her to preserve her children? Because I fear that her father, who lives in the countryside, will take her, which would cause the children to be lost and not raised with a proper upbringing. And is it permissible for me to meet his daughter when she grows up, or not?

Vol. 1 The wife of your deceased paternal great-uncle's son, as well as all of his daughters, are non-mahrams to you; there is no mahram relationship between you and them. It is not permissible for you to be in seclusion with them or to meet them without a hijab. However, it is permissible for you to propose marriage to any one of them you wish. And success is from Allah, and may Allah send prayers and blessings upon our Prophet Muhammad, his family, and his Companions.
