The first question of fatwa number ( 15530 )
Q1: I have a sister, and she has sons and daughters. These sons have married and had sons and daughters. Is it permissible for me to kiss these girls, since I am the maternal uncle of their father? Likewise, my sister’s daughters have married and had sons and daughters. Is it permissible for me to kiss those girls, since I am the maternal uncle of their mother? And are they not required to cover themselves from me? I ask for your guidance, Your Eminence.
A1: A man is a mahram to the daughters of his sister’s daughters and the daughters of his sister’s sons, no matter how far down the line they are; because he is their maternal uncle, and they are not required to cover themselves from him; due to the saying of Allah the Exalted:[An-Nisa 4:23] up to His saying: [An-Nisa 4:23] , and this includes the close daughters and those further down in degree. And success is from Allah, and may Allah send prayers and blessings upon our Prophet Muhammad, his family, and his Companions.
