Fatwa number ( 20363 )
Q: My grandmother, my father's mother, has a brother and a sister. Her brother becomes my father's maternal uncle, and he has a wife. Does my grandmother's brother become my grandfather, or not? And likewise, does his wife
become my grandmother, and is she permitted to uncover her face before me or not? Also, my maternal grandmother, my mother’s mother, has two brothers, and her sisters become my mother’s and her children’s maternal uncles and maternal aunts. Do my maternal grandmother’s brothers become my grandfathers or not? And do their wives become my grandmothers, and are they permitted to uncover their faces before me or not, and are they strangers to me or not? I hope from Allah the Most High, then from your esteemed self, that you would graciously answer my fatwa, and I ask Allah to grant you success in what He loves and is pleased with, for He is the All-Hearing, the Responsive. Peace be upon you and Allah’s mercy and blessings.
