Fatwa number ( 12150 )
Q: My grandfather on my mother’s side married my cousin (female), and the cousin (female) whom my grandfather married became an aunt to my mother. Is it permissible for me to greet the cousin (female) whom my grandfather married and who became an aunt to my mother? May Allah reward you with the best reward for me and for Islam.
A: If the matter is as you described, then your grandfather’s marriage to your cousin (female) makes you one of her mahram (a relative one may not marry), so it is permissible for you to greet her and shake her hand. And success is from Allah, and may Allah send prayers and blessings upon our Prophet Muhammad, his family, and his Companions.
