Q: My uncle — my father's full brother — married my mother after
my father’s death and she bore him a son. My uncle was married to another woman before my mother, and that wife bore him a daughter. We lived together in every respect. Is it permissible for me to marry my uncle’s daughter from the other wife? Knowing that my cousin, who is my brother through my mother, is also this girl’s brother through his father, and there is no breastfeeding relationship between us.
A: If the situation is as you described, it is permissible for you to marry your uncle’s daughter from the other wife. The fact that your cousin is your brother through your mother, and she is his sister through his father, has no effect on your marriage to her; because by that, she is not a mahram (a relative one may not marry) to you. And success is from Allah, and may Allah send prayers and blessings upon our Prophet Muhammad, his family, and his Companions.
