Using Contraception for a Limited Period

Machine translationRead the Arabic original
The first question of Fatwa No. ( 18591 )
Q1: I am a woman and I would like to inquire about my question, which is: I have had an IUD inserted for a specific period of time until my children grow up, because they are still young. Is there anything in this that is lawful or forbidden?
A1: If the use of this contraceptive or any other contraceptive is not harmful to the woman, does not interfere with her acts of worship, and the motive for it is a valid purpose, such as illness or fear of excessive pregnancy, then there is no harm in it, if Allah wills, provided that both spouses agree. This is not the population limitation that the texts of the Shari'ah and its great objectives indicate is forbidden. Indeed, one of its noble objectives is to increase the number of this Ummah. It is established from him (peace and blessings be upon him) that he said:
Marry women who are loving and fertile, for I will compete with the prophets in number on the Day of Resurrection.تزوجوا الودود الولود، فإني مكاثر بكم الأنبياء يوم القيامة
Sunan al-Bayhaqi 10:870

Narrated by Ahmad , al-Bayhaqi , and Ibn Hibban . The texts of the Shari'ah on this matter are numerous. Shaykh al-Islam Ibn Taymiyyah said that turning away from one's spouse and children is not what Allah and His Messenger love, nor is it part of the religion of the Prophets. Allah the Exalted said:
And We have already sent messengers before you and assigned to them wives and descendantsوَلَقَدْ أَرْسَلْنَا رُسُلا مِنْ قَبْلِكَ وَجَعَلْنَا لَهُمْ أَزْوَاجًا وَذُرِّيَّةً
[Ar-Ra'd 13:38]
End of quote. And success is from Allah, and may Allah send prayers and blessings upon our Prophet Muhammad, his family, and his Companions.
