The Ruling on the Use of Contraceptive Methods

Machine translationRead the Arabic original
Question:
Is it permissible for a woman to use a contraceptive method even after two years? We ask for clarification.

Answer:
A decision has been issued by the Council of Senior Scholars prohibiting the use of pills, the intrauterine device (IUD), and similar methods for contraception except in cases of dire necessity: such as a woman suffering from a disease in her womb or body that would harm her if she became pregnant, or a woman who has young children who have come in succession and whose upbringing has become difficult for her. In such cases, she may use such a method for one or two years, the duration of breastfeeding, so that she can use it to assist in their upbringing. However, it is not permissible for the sake of luxury or indifference toward the children.
