The ruling on women using an IUD for the purpose of birth control
Machine translationRead the Arabic original
Question:
The questioner, Fahd Abdullah from the Yemeni Republic, says: What is the ruling on women using a birth control IUD? Is its use forbidden and contrary to Allah’s ruling regarding bearing children? And what do you advise those who have allowed their wives to use such an IUD?
Answer:
The use of the IUD and pills is not permissible for the purpose of birth control. What is required is seeking offspring. It is required of the husband and wife to be diligent in seeking offspring, having many children, and increasing the Muslim community, as the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) said:Sunan al-Bayhaqi 10:869 However, if there is a cause, such as an illness that makes pregnancy difficult, and she and her husband agree on it, or if the child needs her milk and pregnancy prevents this milk, and she needs to breastfeed her child; then there is no harm in using the pills or the IUD for the sake of a legitimate Shari'ah interest, or to avert the harm that is upon her. But without harm and without a legitimate interest; it is not permissible. Rather, it is obligatory to leave that, and to have good opinion of Allah (Glorified and Exalted is He) and that provision is with Allah, even if twenty, thirty, or more come to them. Provision is with Allah, and this is better for them. Increasing the community is increasing the righteous servants of Allah. We ask Allah to rectify their offspring, and the presence of righteous offspring is better for them and for the Muslims.
So they should have good opinion of Allah, and they should call upon Allah to rectify their offspring, and they should leave the pills and the IUD, except for a legitimate Shari'ah interest, or a sudden illness that harms her if pregnancy occurs. Yes.
