Delaying Pregnancy for the Sake of Breastfeeding
Machine translationRead the Arabic original
The third question of Fatwa No. ( 15925 )
Q3: My wife’s menstrual period comes forty days after the date of delivery, and it continues like this every month. If Allah wills, she may become pregnant after that. Is it permissible for her to take contraception so that she can breastfeed the newborn?
A3: It is permissible to take pills to delay pregnancy if there is a need for it, such as if the woman’s condition cannot withstand pregnancy at the present time, or if the nursing child would be harmed if she became pregnant. And success is from Allah, and may Allah send prayers and blessings upon our Prophet Muhammad, his family, and his Companions.
