Investigating the suitor before the proposal
Machine translationRead the Arabic original
The eighth question of Fatwa No. ( 18452 )
Q 8: How can I be certain that the man who has proposed to me is committed to applying the Shari'ah in his own conduct and his dealings with others, given that there are many among us who claim to be committed?
A 8: It is obligatory for the woman's guardian in this case to investigate and ask about the one who has proposed to his ward. If he is satisfied with his religion and his character, he marries him to her; otherwise, he does not. The means by which a person's condition is known are numerous and accessible, including asking his relatives and his colleagues at work, and observing his condition, without rushing in this matter. And success is from Allah, and may Allah send prayers and blessings upon our Prophet Muhammad, his family, and his Companions.
