Q: I am a man who is 27 years old, and up to now I have not obtained what would encourage me to marry. The reason is that mahr has risen to an enormous extent, exceeding one hundred and twenty thousand riyals. Now I prefer to remain a bachelor. Please inform me: is there a sin on me for remaining a bachelor because of the high cost of mahr? May Allah reward you with good.
A: You must strive with all your might to chaste yourself and protect it through marriage. If you are unable to do so, you should fast, for it will help you, by the permission of Allah and His power.
and His strength in guarding the private parts and chaste the soul; for it is established from the saying of the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him):Mishkat al-Masabih 3080 agreed upon by al-Bukhari and Muslim. We ask Allah for you to make things easy and to guide you aright. And success is from Allah, and may Allah send prayers and blessings upon our Prophet Muhammad, his family, and his Companions.
