Ruling on a woman announcing her desire for marriage in newspapers
Machine translationRead the Arabic original
The first question of Fatwa No. ( 17930 )
Q1: Whatis the ruling on girls advertising themselves in newspapers and magazines, along with their attributes, for those who wish to propose to them and marry them?
A1: A woman announcing in newspapers and magazines her desire for marriage and stating her specifications is inconsistent with modesty, decency, and covering, and it was not the custom of Muslims. Therefore, it is obligatory to leave it. Furthermore, this action is inconsistent with the authority of her guardian over her, and with the fact that her proposal should be through him and with his approval.
And success is from Allah, and may Allah send prayers and blessings upon our Prophet Muhammad, his family, and his Companions.
