What is the authenticity of the hadith: "May Allah curse the one who joins hair and the one who has it joined," and what is its meaning?

The questioner : What is the authenticity of this hadith and what is intended by it? You say:
Allah has cursed the one who does hair extensions and the one who has that done. لعن الله الواصلة والمستوصلة
Sunan Ibn Majah 1988Sahih (Darussalam)
and so on. So what is the intent of this hadith? Does it refer to hair made from hair that has fallen out, or hair made from wool and other manufactured materials?

The Shaykh : The one who joins hair is the one who joins the hair of another person, and the one who has it joined is the one who requests that this be done to her. Joining head hair with hair is forbidden, indeed it is one of the major sins, because the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) cursed the one who does it. Scholars have differed regarding joining hair with something other than hair; some said: it is not permissible, because the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) forbade a woman from joining anything to her hair. The word:
anything شيئاً
is general and includes hair and other things. Accordingly, artificial hair that resembles the hair created by Allah (Mighty and Majestic) is not permissible to join to the hair created by Allah (Exalted is He); rather, it falls under this hadith.
The hadith contains a severe warning for the one who does this, because the Messenger (peace and blessings be upon him) said:
Allah has cursed the one who does hair extensions and the one who has that done. لعن الله الواصلة والمستوصلة
Sunan Ibn Majah 1988Sahih (Darussalam)
Cursing means being driven away and kept distant from the mercy of Allah. The scholars have mentioned that every sin for which Allah the Exalted has established the punishment of cursing is one of the major sins.
