The second question of Fatwa No. ( 19211 )
Q2: My mother refuses to let me wear the jilbab, due to preventing circumstances, and I am currently going out in the dir' and khimar when necessity demands it, and I have no jilbab available. Should I disobey my mother and wear my jilbab despite these preventing circumstances, or am I obligated to obey her? Guide me to what is best for my religion and my worldly life.
A2: It is obligatory for you to adhere to the complete, Shari'ah-prescribed hijab; this is obedience to Allah the Exalted and His Messenger (peace and blessings be upon him), and it includes covering the face and the hands. It is not permissible for you to obey your mother in leaving off the hijab; for the saying of the Messenger (peace and blessings be upon him):Mishkat al-Masabih 3696 , but you must explain the Shari'ah ruling to her with gentleness
and proper conduct, softness of speech, and addressing her in the best manner, so that perhaps Allah will guide her and open her heart to complying with the Shari'ah ruling. And success is from Allah, and may Allah send prayers and blessings upon our Prophet Muhammad, his family, and his Companions.
