Is it permissible to prevent sisters from attending parties?
Machine translationRead the Arabic original
Fatwa number ( 13315 )
Q: I prevent my sisters from attending the parties and weddings held in our town (village), even though this action angers and upsets my mother and my sisters, and they say to me: "O wrongdoer," despite the fact that all the girls in the village go. I am inquiring about the ruling of the Shari'ah regarding my action: is it injustice as my mother claims, and am I sinful? Please inform us, may Allah reward you.
A: If the wedding feast includes something forbidden; such as the mixing of men and women, or the serving of forbidden foods and drinks, or singing with instruments and music and the like, then it is not permissible to attend it. This is unlike singing with the hand drum at a wedding, which is permissible for women. And if the wedding feast does not include any of the forbidden things, then there is nothing wrong with women attending it. And success is from Allah, and may Allah send prayers and blessings upon our Prophet Muhammad, his family, and his Companions.
