Compelling the acceptance of an invitation if the event includes something forbidden
Machine translationRead the Arabic original
The second question of Fatwa No. ( 13400 )
Q2: Marriages in these times take place in palaces, and sins occur there that are not hidden from you. I have disliked it and prevented my wives and daughters from going, yet they desire to go to these palaces and attend the weddings. Should I continue to prevent them or should I allow them and not be sinful?
A2: If the wedding event includes something forbidden, such as the free mixing of men and women, or musical instruments and the like, it is not permissible for you to allow your family to attend it. If the event does not include anything forbidden, there is no blame on you for allowing your family to attend the wedding. Beating the hand drum at a wedding is not among the musical instruments that are prohibited, provided there are no men present with them. And success is from Allah, and may Allah send prayers and blessings upon our Prophet Muhammad, his family, and his Companions.
