Q 1: I live with five of my colleagues, and their situation is that they pray
the five daily prayers in the mosque, but at night they play cards, smoke cigarettes, and watch television. I sit in the room with them while they play cards, and I am unable to speak, nor can I enjoin good or forbid evil regarding that; because they are a group, and also due to my job, I eat with them and sit with them. So I ask you to answer the following: A- Is it permissible for me to live in that room with them? B- Is it permissible to pray with them? Knowing that they are consistent in their prayer. C- Is it permissible to eat with them? Knowing that the nature of my job does not allow me to cook for myself.
A 1: As long as your colleagues maintain the prayer, but they commit some sins, such as smoking and playing cards, you may live with them, provided that you disapprove of them and advise them. If they do not heed the advice, then isolate yourself from them and live in another place. And success is from Allah, and may Allah send prayers and blessings upon our Prophet Muhammad, his family, and his Companions.
