It is not permissible to attend a celebration containing evil unless change is possible

Machine translationRead the Arabic original
The first question of Fatwa number ( 20422 )
Q1: What is the ruling of the pure religion regarding a man whose sister wants to get married, knowing that the wedding will be with musical instruments and what Allah and His Messenger do not approve of? Should the son stay in the house during the wedding, or should he boycott it during that time? And if he fears fitnah (trial, discord or temptation) by locking himself in a room, can he remain in the house? Also, if his father orders him to fulfill some needs for this wedding?
A1: If this son is able, when attending his sister's wedding celebration, to prevent or mitigate the evils that take place in this celebration, then there is no harm in his attending this celebration; because of the benefit in changing the evil. But if he is not able to do that, then it is not permissible for him to attend this celebration; because of the assistance in the evil, its encouragement, and approval of it. There is no harm in fulfilling the needs and requests his father asks him to buy, if they are permissible, and if there is no assistance in the disobedience of Allah in that. And success is from Allah, and may Allah send prayers and blessings upon our Prophet Muhammad, his family, and his Companions.
