Ruling on fragrances, nail polish, and lengthening the nails
Machine translationRead the Arabic original
The sixth question of Fatwa No. ( 3377 )
Q6: Are the following things forbidden in Islam: (fragrances,
Perfume, nail polish, and long fingernails)? Vol. 6: First: The Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) used to perfume himself, and perfume was beloved to him. He encouraged his Ummah to perfume themselves for Friday prayer, so it is a recommended practice for everyone. However, a woman should not perfume herself with something whose scent is noticeable if she goes out to the mosque or the market, due to the prohibition of doing so. Second: It is permissible to do so, but leaving it off is better. It is obligatory to remove it during ablution and the full ritual bath, because it prevents water from reaching the skin. Third: It is not permissible to let the fingernails grow long, because the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) commanded them to be cut and set a time limit for Muslims not to leave: cutting the fingernails, trimming the mustache, plucking the armpit hair, and shaving the pubic hair, for more than forty nights. And success is from Allah, and may Allah send prayers and blessings upon our Prophet Muhammad, his family, and his Companions.
