The Ruling on a Woman Lengthening Her Fingernails

Answer: In any case, it is not permissible for the fingernails to remain long. The Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) commanded their trimming, and the apparent meaning of the commands is obligation. Therefore, it is obligatory to trim the fingernails, trim the beard, pluck the armpit hair, and shave the pubic hair. This has been established in the authentic hadith . Therefore, a Muslim should not leave them for more than forty nights. In fact, the recommended practice (sunnah) is to trim the beard before that. Likewise, trimming the fingernails for both men and women, plucking the armpit hair for both men and women, and shaving the pubic hair for both men and women; all of this should be hastened and attended to before forty nights. The man trims his beard, trims his fingernails, plucks his armpit hair, and shaves his pubic hair. The woman likewise trims her fingernails, plucks her armpit hair, and shaves her pubic hair or removes the pubic hair with some medication, just as the man does. This is a confirmed recommended practice (sunnah), and it may be said to be obligatory; because a time limit was set for us in this matter not to leave it for more than forty nights. And the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) commanded the trimming of the beard, trimming of the fingernails, and plucking of the armpit hair.
The apparent meaning of this is obligation, and that it is not permissible to leave it in a way that disfigures the appearance and is considered long by custom; because this is contrary to the established recommended practice (sunnah) of him (peace and blessings be upon him). And what some people do of lengthening their fingernails is an abomination with no basis, and it is imitating some of the enemies of Allah. Yes.
