Fatwa number ( 7462 )
Q: Is it permissible for the suitor to see the prospective bride in the absence of seclusion? That is: in the presence of her family and her mahrams (relatives one may not marry), and is it permissible for me to speak with my fiancée if the marriage contract has been concluded but I have not yet entered upon her, and to sit with her without a mahram?
A: First: It is prescribed for the suitor to see his prospective bride without seclusion with her; based on the hadith:Sahih al-Bukhari 5233
Second: It is permissible for a man to speak with the woman with whom he has concluded a marriage contract, and to see her and sit with her before consummation, provided that he should take care to observe the customs followed by families; out of fear of false accusations. And success is from Allah, and may Allah send prayers and blessings upon our Prophet Muhammad, his family, and his Companions.
