A Muslim does not take more than four wives

Machine translationRead the Arabic original
The second question, Fatwa number ( 9087 )
Q2: The Noble Qur'an indicates that a Muslim does not marry more than four women, so why did the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) not adhere to what came in the Noble Qur'an
and marry more than four women?

A2: The Noble Qur'an, which permitted a Muslim who is confident in his own justice to take four wives without exceeding that number, is the same Qur'an that permitted the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) to take more than four wives. Both rulings are legislation from Allah, not driven by desire or lust. Allah the Exalted said:
O Prophet, indeed We have made lawful to you your wives to whom you have given their due compensation and those your right hand possesses from what Allah has returned to you [of captives]يَا أَيُّهَا النَّبِيُّ إِنَّا أَحْلَلْنَا لَكَ أَزْوَاجَكَ اللاتِي آتَيْتَ أُجُورَهُنَّ وَمَا مَلَكَتْ يَمِينُكَ مِمَّا أَفَاءَ اللَّهُ عَلَيْكَ
[Al-Ahzab 33:50]
until He said:
You, [O Muhammad], may put aside whom you will of them or take to yourself whom you willتُرْجِي مَنْ تَشَاءُ مِنْهُنَّ وَتُؤْوِي إِلَيْكَ مَنْ تَشَاءُ
[Al-Ahzab 33:51]
until He said:
Not lawful to you, [O Muhammad], are [any additional] women after [this], nor [is it] for you to exchange them for [other] wives, even if their beauty were to please you, except what your right hand possesses. And ever is Allah, over all things, an Observer.
[Al-Ahzab 33:52]
Thus, this was legislation from Allah the Exalted for His Messenger and His Ummah. It is obligatory to believe in it. Whoever believes in some of it and disbelieves in some of it has done what the Jews did in their belief in part of the Book and their disbelief in the rest of it. And success is from Allah, and may Allah send prayers and blessings upon our Prophet Muhammad, his family, and his Companions.
